Bloody hell, the heater stuck on in my fresh tank... 100% loss 95 degrees in there for a heater thats only supposed to go to 88 max. I almost used that on my marine tank. I have had those angel fish for a couple years, I'm so pissed I can't even think straight.

I'm really sorry to hear that. Sounds like you need some kind of secondary controller for your heater at the very least? Faulty heaters is the #1 cause of tank crashes. If you don't want a full out Apex then I'd suggest a Ranco temp controller.

The number one cause of tank crashes are operator error, like in this case I assumed the heater was working because it was working fine before I made the swap. I didn't verify that it was shutting off after unplugging it then hooking it back up. either way I got my sump inline on my 75g now, and hooked in the skimmer, now I need to figure out my turf scrubber pretty quickly so I can prevent any overrun of algae and start planning out my fish list.

OK so here is the sump as it sits right now, built a little PVC platform to raise the floor level for the skimmer to get it in the right operating depth, and set it in a rubber maid bin to act as a bubble deflector to keep the bubbles moving upward. I am going to add a small amount of mineral mud in a specimen container to act as a pod breeding ground, as well as over time adding lots of live rock/rubble to the left side at the drop from the tank. I'm going to modify the depth the down pipe is at eventually its not glued, the last section,so i can change it out once I am ready to cut it back. on the right side I am going to build a rack that tilts high to low running from right to left-center as a 24 inch by 10 inch turf scrubber and pump the water up onto it at the right and let it flow back to the center to keep bubbles far from the pump as well as loading the area under the screen with rock.

I stand corrected, I should have said the #1 mechanical error that causes tank crashes. All errors could count as user error in aquariums. Sent from my SM-N910R4 using proboards

Started building my scrubber, gt the frame assembled and the tipped tray on and the screen cut to size now I have to rough up the screen and find some plastic pins (or something) to hold the screen stationary, and figure out the water feed for it.

and the water level is a little high in the sump going to lower it until the bottom edge of the scrubber is even with the high water line. (i overfilled a little when topping off...sloppy me)

I was running 3- 15W red and blue leds on my scrubber with great results. You can get them really cheap on ebay.

I'm debating how I want to light it in the long run. for now i'll probably just grab a second plant spectrum PC bulb.only be like $3 for what I need.

so about 12 days in here is the look of the tank, a bit barren, I need a bit more rock, there was of course an initial cyano burst from using some of the old water and the stuff that came along with the rock even though I used all new sand. but right now I am starting to see some whiting out of the cyano in locations meaning its actually dying not just fading out. YAY! the turf scrubber is showing a shadow of growth on it after a couple days not much considering how little available nutrients there are the initial cyano burst locked it up but as it fades and releases there will be more for the scrubber to capture. plus I added a spotted hawk fish. not usually my first choice for a reef tank but I like them.
