Make sure to break in. Middle of the night it may suddenly decide to go haywire. Long story short I had 5 gallons of water on the floor.

Comes with the territory. I'm still dealing with some myself (black sand). Diatoms eat silicates so once the silicates are all consumed in the tank your diatoms will die off. Just make sure you aren't adding any additional silicates into the tank. Turbo snails will do a number on diatoms as well. Get a few.

Well.... Everything seems to be testing out okay. But the snails seems to be dying which is now creating a secondary cycle.
Temp 80 pH 8.2 Ammonia 0.25 Nitrite 0 Nitrate 20 Phosphate 0
I do have a small algae bloom going on but I thought that was common at the end of your first cycle. Just checking to make sure I haven't screwed anything up major yet.

You are fine. Sometimes ammonia tests can show a trace amount as .25 When it really doesn't have any. I generally don't worry about it unless it gets above that. Suprised at snail die off though.

Correct. Not at minute levels like that is what i have found. Varies by the batch with them.
