ya id try to make tiers and caves fish like going in between rocks. its amazing that they fit i think sometimes. the corals will need lotta light so kinda like steps to perch them on. Dont worry about getting it right now you will find yourself arranging it again and again as you get new items

Just ordered a clean up crew from reef cleaners. Guess I'll have something live to look at in the tank soon.

I hope you didn't go to nuts on the clean up crew. With a tank that new there won't be much for them to eat.

Liveaquaria has a good deal on build your own package of clean up crew as well and free shipping on the build your own package over $75. Only problem is half the cleaners on the list are out of stock half the time. Almost time for me to restock the cleaning crew.

Get yourself a nice powerhead, post a WTB add on this site. I'm sure someone has one lying around. You should be able to get a used one for $20 and soaking them in vinegar overnight makes them look new. Also, get that skimmer set up! Those should be your first priorities. The sooner you get the tank set up properly the quicker things will finish cycling and become stable. If you wait, you're going to get frustrated because the tank will be a lot of work to keep clean and stable.
What's the white PVC in the tank, Is that the return?

It would make sense if you wanted to throw a few in with a large order but just a clean up crew? Just go down to Petco and grab a few...really the only thing most Petco's are good for.

I ordered clean up crew from reef cleaners. The 29 gal quick crew 26 Dwarf Ceriths,12 Nassarius,11 Florida Ceriths, and 11 Nerites which is Probably way too much to start but it was what he recommended. The whole crew was $30 so I guess if you guys think I need to back it off I'd have some extra to trade/give away. i put the aquaclear 70 and aquaclear 20 both in the DT now. I have moved the live rock into what I think is a better configuration, I'll post pics below and you guys can let me know (water is still a little cloudy from moving things but I think you can see enough). Yes the white PVC is the return I did originally just have a single line return but when I upgraded the return pump to the magdrive 5, it was blowing sand everywhere. as for the skimmer....this one that was given to me is being a pain in the .... I don't know if I just need a better pump to drive it. Everything I read said I could use a powerhead to drive it but when I try to do that it stops drawing air and only pumps water straight through. So maybe I need to look at getting a different one, not sure. There aren't any markings on it that I have found so I don't know who makes it, when I take the skim cup off I can see bio balls down inside though.

I'd take those bio balls out of there asap. I've never seen bio balls in a protein skimmer before?? Maybe I've been missing something? I personally don't like bio balls at all. You can't use a regular power head because it doesn't have a ventri (sorry if I miss spelled) it's something on the intake that draws air in? I've also heard you can hook a air pump to the input to get bubbles but air pumps are loud and you'd be better off buying a pump made for a skimmer. What does the skimmer look like? Got a picture? Post I've of the pump it came with as well if you can? Here's a picture of my intake on my skimmer the hose coming out of the blue thing is the ventri. You may need to modify your skimmer? There is a picture on the previous page of the thread. The powerhead I have does have a Venturi intake but as soon as the pump is trying to push against the head it stops drawing air. Think it just doesn't have enough gusto.

Also just so you know I have a atman 2000 I'm not using. I was going to save it just in case but if you end up being one let me know? It may be to big for your skimmer though?

Just ordered a different skimmer sca-301. Hopefully it fits in my sump without too much modification.

make sure your rocks are secure. the snails and things dig under and they can move and collapse killing fish and corals and things. you can peg them or glue them. some use epoxy putty hold them together. good vids on youtube showing lots on putting them together. gl
