So this project is starting to roll forwards. Just put down the deposit on a custom acrylic from Marine Ecological Habitat in Biddeford. Nice bunch of guys. Really willing to work with you on design. It might even be ready by the end of the month.
It's going to be 36x24x24 with a coast to coast internal overflow on the short side. Bean animal style(3 pipe) 1.25" stand pipes. A single 1" return will be T'd to two 3/4" locklines that go through the overflow wall.
I'll be building the sump myself most likely from a 20L petco tank(I have one lying around). Return pump is a Deepwater aquatics BLDC5. Skimmer I'm leaning towards is an Eshopps x-160 and I'll use 2-300 Watt titanium finnex heaters.
ATO=undecided
Cooling= initially a icecap 4" variable speed fan to vent the cabinet. Then either adding an evaporation cooling fan to the sump or going full on chiller.
Aquascape will hopefully end up looking a little minimalist(although I don't usually succeed at that) with multiple arches and overhangs. I've got probably 30 lbs of dry rock (from reefrocks.net) left over from my last project and haven't made up my mind what to do about the rest. Some have recommended "real reef rocks" because of the color and lack of pests. I've also looked at gulfliverock.com for true live rock expressly to get the diversity but that comes with the risk of bad hitchhikers of course.
Corals; because of fish stocking coral choices will be based on what I find they don't like to nip at too much I'd like a green toadstool leather as the focus coral but time will tell. Probably end up with a lot of Rhodactis type shrooms.
Invert stocking;
Purple Reef lobster
Tropical Abalone
Fuzzy chiton
chestnut turbo
serpent/brittle star
fromia star
Tiger tail cuke
Fighting conch
Also maybe a Banded coral shrimp(I've heard of success if the shrimp is established and larger at introduction, presuming of course that I keep the lions fed )
Fish list
Tomini tang
Atlantic longnose or Tahitian butterflyfish or a Copper banded if I want to attempt to get one to eat frozen food.
Eibli dwarf angel
Fire clown(possibly too aggressive?)
Some combo of the following
Dwarf Fuzzy lion
Hawaiian lion
radiata lion
Fu Manchu lion
wispy or japanese waspfish
The adventure begins.
