Ok so riddlle me this batman. An overflow box is in essence a hotb filter with holes in th bottom. I have 3 or 4 old whisper 4 boxes that the impeller went. why couldn't I drill holes in those, insert my bulkhetds and call it a day? Probably gonna end up drilling, but I really want to explore all other options first. Oh and moving out for more room is out of the question cause it's going to be an enclosd stand

Then they go to 4" The pf1200 has 2 1" bulkheads and can handle 1200gph. Probably more then enough for you? You could always add a second one later on? Rob how far does that bulkhead stick out? build the stand 1/2" bigger lol slide the tank to the front
the problem with trying to diy allot of things, is it usually cost allot more. sometimes you need to try not to reinvent the wheel..... the way an overflow box works, is it uses gravity to siphon water out of the tank a hob filter dosnt keep the siphon going it uses a pump to pull water from the tank

(75g is tempered on the bottom) personally I dont like durso pipes they take up allot of space, I think 3g + of wasted space with a box like in my 30g it gives you a place to hide pumps pile rock......

Ya called aquion cause that's what I originally wanted to do (build rockwork around standpipes), but no go!

I gotta feeling that by the end of the night, I'll probably pm scoobnoob and see if he can help me drill it. Enough of this bs. I'm wasting money and time when I already have the bulkheads. Ok, so I verified that my pump is a deep blue 5 rated for 1350 gph. Would 2 1" bulkeads, one on each end be enough?

You could always add a gate valve or ball valve after your return pump and dial it back just a little bit. According to this you need a 1.52" drain. So even 2 3/4" bulkheads would do it. I'd say 2 1" drains would be perfect for that pump. Plus you'll lose some with head pressure. www.reefcentral.com/calc/drain.phpSent from my SM-N910R4 using proboards

ya that's what I figured. I just sent a pm to scoob. I'm the type of person that when I get a new tank, it's usually set up within a couple weeks at the very most. It's just sitting there staring at me saying "set me up." It's really bumming me out! Time to move on! Still have a lot more to do before adding livestock.

just wait till you have 5-10 tanks sitting there saying "SET ME UP" you could always drill the side of the tank and put a coast to coast like this

No I want all plumbing on sides. Setting it up kinda like a island room divider. And trust me, rhere are plenty of smaller tanks sitting around, but the agreement was one tank. She likes it when it's nice and clean and beautiful, but otherwise has very little interest in even having a tank; especially after the 65g disaster.

ok so I'k making one last attempt at building an overflow box. As of right now, I have 3 pieces bonded together perfectly, before I go any further I need to decide on one or two u tubes. I have a 3/4" u tube from a nano overflow, but I'm thinking with 2 1" bulkheads, I'm gonna need more than that. If done correctly I should have enough room for 2 3/4" u tubes on the ends with the bulkheads in the center. I think 1" u tubes would be to big and would have to resort to just 1 in the center. opinions or comments greatly appreciated!
