Would you recommended? I have small children so I'm not taking any chances on faulty wiring again. I'll leave you alone after this.....Maybe lol I don't mind at all. That's why we're all on here isn't it? You never answered the question, did your Apex come with the VMD module? If not it's a $100 so no, I wouldn't think it would be worth the cost. If yes then I would research a little more and give it a shot. As long as you don't do anything foolish you're not going to put your family at risk. The biggest risk is burning up your Apex.

I tried doing it that way with my arduino using upping the 5v PWM to 10v PWM and unless I hooked up something wrong it didn't work....it is possible

You're trying to convert an analog signal to PWM step it up from 5v to 10v and then send back an analog value. The Apex uses an analog signal so the conversion to PWM isn't necessary. Jason isn't going to run into the 5v to 10v step up issue.

I don't have an Apex so it's a little hard for me to follow what pins they are talking about but it will work...as shown in the video.

No I didn't get the vdm module. But I plan to try to find some of the modules I want used so I don't have to pay full price. I've been told they come up all the time on different forms.

Personally, I wouldn't bother then. Even if you find a VDM module for half price is it worth it? You're still not guaranteed that you'll be able to get it to work. You're tearing into a brand new light fixtures, hacking up wires, doing the same to the Apex, and how much are you really going to save? Why not just spend a little extra cash to get a light that is programmable?

I could sell these but it would take awhile and I'd have to figure out a way to sell the ones over my tank before I buy the upgraded lights. Wife won't let me spend much more right now. I've spent 700$ plus in the past 5 weeks on the tank.

I just took the time to read through the entire thread. The newer style lights are using different drivers and no one has figured out a solution. The older style fixtures were a pretty easy fix.
