So, I was checking out the tank this am and I noticed there were a few things that arent looking so hot.... first my BTA had its mouth hanging open and looked kinda shriveled up. He has since closed his mouth and look like he's back to normal. 2) my hammerhead and my frogspawn look HORRIBLE and im losing more and more heads every day. I know i need to get calcum and mag tests but ive had these less than a week and they're going downhill fast! If it is calcium could it really kill that many heads in less than a week? What would you guys do? 3) so mr.bubbles also decided he wanted to wander this am and when i realized he had moved, he was sitting on one of my pink and gold palys... it looks like the palys are burnt a bit and im wondering if they'll heal? I noticed this am it's popping a baby out so i got stoked and then the bigger palys got burned...I'm hoping they'll go back to normal. I have my green star polyps and my dragon eye zoas and xenias and mushrooms ect, they're all doing just fine, but im now worried about the BTA, the hammerhead and frogspawn and my palys! HELP! lol Anyways, here's some pics oh and PS: i did move all the corals to the sand so I they had some time to adjust

Most things can withstand a bta sting and recoup. As for cal and mag, I never dose, or even check it lol. If your using good salt you should be fine unless your stocked with sps, then I guess I'd probably dose/check.My guess is that your tank is suffering from a bit of overload, to much to soon makes not so nice things happen in your tank. When corals get stressed they release stuff into the water. Your system is fairly new still so it will be easy to throw things off. Water change, take the hammers/frogs out of high flow area and let things settle for a while. They may not be dead, they can retract into the skeleton quite a ways.

I tried to move the hammers and frogs into a nook to avoid water flow as much as possible. Not all of it is dead, but i know some of it is because the heads that die start to look like mush and then they start kinda getting stringy and floating away Do the BTA's ever open their mouths when they arent sick? I hope the palys heal! Could all these issues have anything to do with my nitrates? also, can i use amquel and smartstart together?

I've never heard of smart start, but going to assume they both do the same thing? I would only use one if so. Are you dosing it as a new system?

Does it give a dosage instruction for new tanks? I would dose as new, not maintenance or anything, probably safe to say you can double the dose

dont use the smart start!! any product that adds nitrate to the tank is bad for an established tank!
have you checked your nitrates? I can guarantee they are HIGH

I was wondering if that stuff was safe for already established tanks, you want something that removes it, not adds it to cycle. A gaping mouth on any nem is usually not good. If you have anyone nearby that could keep your corals that are stressing id move them out for a bit. Like Rob said, if that stuff is adding nitrates then this is your problem!!

When I was reading this my head went the same place as Robs! I would definately check your nitrates! My frogspawn did the same exact thing when my nitrates were high! My zoos, mushrooms, all my softies all were doing fine... however my frogspawn would shrivel up and die.... I bet they are high
