They discontinued them because outlets 4 and 8 are now the "relay" outlets. They can handle 10amps.

Yes they did; however, I can not plug my heater into my eb8 because I would be too close to the 15 amp limit with my other equipment. They discontinued the relays because they wanted to sell more eb4's at twice the cost.

There are 2 of them on Ebay, about $60 with shipping. Salty Critters still has them in stock as well for $49.00 w/out shipping. I'll have to check out units on ebay. I would think that there might be a commercial type relay that is not as expensive, haven't found one yet.

Before I bought my expansion socket, I had found a website on how to build one. But the cost and risk of getting it right just pointed me to buy a manufactured one.

A break out box would be just about the same cost as the Neptune Socket Expander

i used a couple of old extinction cords. you would take just the male end of one cord and hook it up to the white wire with black stripe, and white wire with yellow stripe. Then i used another cord and separated out the different wires without cutting them, then you cut one of the wires, preferably the hot wire, it is usually the black one. then the orange and yellow wires connect to that. now the male end you did first would plug into your EB8 outlet for the heater, then the second cord plugs into any outlet and the heater. now when your apex tells your heater to turn on it will activate the RIB relay and send power to the heater. I can draw up a picture if you are still confused
