I just laid in a piece of plastic canvas in my sump the water flows across it and it seems to be collecting some algae now it floats on top just clipped one end to hold it . will see how that works out.

My question is how do you keep the algae spores out of the dt? Just wondering if you need a bunch of tangs or grazers in the dt or uv for the return of the scrubber or.....

you dont have to worry about that algae is going to grow where it has the best conditions, the goal of the scrubber is to make it so ideal there that the rest of your tank wont grow the algae because the stuff in the scrubber is growing so fast it out competes the stuff in the DT

Just built one yesterday. The lengths are not glued so I can cut if needed. I wanted extra pipe so I can hang it then trim. The hardest part is how to hang it. I'm going to put some braces in the stand. hopefully use plastic clothes hangers and bend with a heat gun.
