Working on the spectral distribution of my led fixture and the wavelengths from 460-490 are seriously underrepresented on the few sites I've checked out!
The royal blues are peaking around 450 and the regular blues are 460. I'm using neutral whites to fill in from there and their relative spectral distribution doesn't really pick up until above 500.
Anyone have a lead?

jason, I plan to source most of my diodes as Philips luxeon from stevesleds. THe binning htere is top notch and the efficiency of the luxeon diodes is unmatched. I'll post sketches of my plans when I get them ready! Been spending a ton of time in cad trying to work out the best spacing / number of leds.

Have you considered making a couple close groups like Radions? Makes for good shimmer and color mixing

I have! Heres a peak at one design. I'm working on a couple variations of a "equidistantly spaced" design as well. I haven't yet gotten to the point of calculating my estimated irradiance values but plan to before I purchase the LEDs. imgur.com/SoRQi9x

The second design is likely to have an amber and cyan LED added. I'm not adding red as the warm whites add a lot of red.

Have you considered using cool white instead of warm and neutral white? I know my fixtures use a higher watt cool white. Also instead of indigo wouldn't you rather use a semi led and get a true UV? www.semileds.com/UVLED_SemiLEDs.htmCheck this out as well.... reefll.com/ I want to build a fixture off this site just to try. My design process is to use the article at advanced aquarist by the reefll guys as a cheatsheet for how to select LEDs for optimal spectrum. I came VERY close ot purchasing their pucks but their website indicates I'd need to spend 1200 dollars on materials (not including heatsinks). This is outside of my budget so I'll go the super diy route unless I prove to myself I can't create a satisfactory design for less money. The theory behind usage of neutral / warm whites is that they add much more continuous spectrum color from 500nm to 650 nm than a cool white. Since the whole point of the white LEDs is to balance my color spectrum I will go with those that offer a better output at the intended wavelength range. One specific benefit of the warm white is the large peak at 630-650ish where zooanth can photosynthesize the energy. The luxeon white led datasheet For reference: www.philipslumileds.com/uploads/datasheets/DS61.pdfIF you check out the plots of relative luminence vs. frequency you'll see what I mean. These LEDs appear to "fill" the spectrum well enough that I oculd probably get away with JUST Royal blues(450), blues(475), cyan (500), Indigo (415). I do like your suggestion of adding UV light though. I'll need to read more on the UV light's effect on corals though! Do you have any references on the subject?

Have you checked out the lumia 5.1 or 5.2? They look like a real nice chip, there is a bunch of people using them on RC. Aliexpress has the 5.1 for $38

How many of the 5.2 do you think I'd need for sps in a 60x24x24?

Those are actually looking very nice to me now as I evaluate them. Time is money and those will save me a huge amount of time.

The layout seems similar to the 5.1 at a third of the price. Witch ever you go with I'd go with 1 per 12" with a narrower spread. If they're anything like the kessils they'll leave way to many shadows for Sps if you go with one every 24". Also if you could go with the 5.1 you coups always add in some RB and maybe a couple 400nm around and in between the multi chips for a better spread and spectrum. Or throw 1 T5 on each side of your fixture. They'll definitely help with shadowing and growth with Sps. Sent from my SM-N910R4 using proboards
