How will the January 10¢ increase affect your "addiction" this plays back into a past post of going off the grid
Current monthly bill:
$250 × .1 = $25 × 12 = $300 a year!!
Think about it

300$ more a year? On my power bill? Is that what you mean? I mean I think it's fuc%*d up but oh well really. I'm surprised it took them this long to tell you the truth. My cable bill started off at 99$ a month and is now close to 200$a month so it seems the norm now a days.

Do you have a link to this increase?

Also if your increase is .10 you can't just multiply your current bill by .10. .06 to .16 represents a 166% increase so multiply 250 by 1.66 and your new bill unfortunately is $415 an increase of $165

X 12 and that's an increase of $1980 annually!! My boss has been talking about this for months and rates doubling and I want someone to be wrong. My $180 bill will go up to 298.

All the electricity rates are going up in the new year, I just got the email from Electricity Maine that they are going up 6 cents per KWH. The standard offer is going up too, so I'm going to wait until late December and see which one is better and make my decision.
It's kinda funny how they have been pushing everyone to install Heat Pump systems in their homes to help reduce oil usage, even giving $500 rebates thru Efficiency Maine. Now they are raising the electric rates so that large investment you just did will never pay for itself.

As a quick note to avoid hysteria, you can't just multiply the entire bill by a percentage to see the new bill. Only the power cost is going up, based on what I've seen, not the delivery. So, you need to look at your bill and see how many KWH you're using and multiply by the cents increase. For example, if you use 500 KWH per month, a $0.01 increase means you're looking at an extra $5.00 on the bill, and a $0.10 increase means that's a $50.00 increase.

Not that this doesn't suck, of course.

Exactly............the delivery rate isn't going up, the supply rate is.

Maybe we could use hydro power in our overflow lines to create a perpetual energy machine?

true on the supply vs delivery didn't think about it that when I was on one morning rants.. still it sucks my self I am still going to attempt to faze parts of my tanks off this winter primarily with solar and switching to less power heads with larger more efficient returns

Heaters are the killer for us in Maine.........300, 500, even 1000 watts of heaters really racks up the electricity.
DC return pumps, DC wavemakers, LED lights..........that all helps since they use less power.
My biggest power draws are the 2-250w heaters, 90w return pump, and 90w lights (at peak).
I'm still tempted to try out a DC return pump, but they are internal.....and I prefer external.
