I was thinking of getting IT-2040 to replace the crappy t5 fixture I have. Not much In the way of reviews on it out there. I know I'm replacing cheap Chinese t5 with cheap Chinese LED, but at least it's programmable.

If you are going to spend the money they want on Ocean Rivive, you would be better off going with ReefBreeders for the 2 year warranty and better LED layout.

it2040 is the reefbreeders photon16, very nice light for the money... if you dont get it from reefbreeders make sure the light you are getting has a color pattern that matches.
fragfreaks has them for a good price also easy aquariums can get them for a good price...

Okay the more I look at these fixtures the bigger the price tag I seem to be leaning towards. Is there significant reason to go for razor 420 over the photon 16?

Everyone will have a different opinion but read as much as you can. There's a big difference in the bins leds come from and it will make a give difference in watcher or not they'll be the right spectrum. And how long they last. You get what you pay for.....imo, good read. aquarium-digest.com/tag/best-led-reef-lights/

Yeah I found that article awhile ago. It started me down my decision to go led.

I was thinking about trying out the R420R 120W 16K, but the more I looked at it on tanks the more I didn't want it. It just didn't provide the coverage I was looking for, and the fixture is huge due to the passive cooling.
I'm going to be grabbing a Reefbreeders Photon 24 next month. For the price, I know the performance, and a 2 year warranty......it's hard to beat.

Look up the differences between bins of leds and how much of a difference in spectrum they can have. It's crazy and lower bins cause more heat with reduces the life of a fixture. I mean I'm not saying ocean revive isn't a good light because Idk? But I do know it's hard to make a good quality reef led light for a couple hundred bucks. Spend once and leave no room for wanting to up grade again after believe me I know.

Check out the Orphek Atlantik compact. The Orphek web page in general is really good.

I've heard a lot of people don't like the razor LEDs. What is it that they don't like? Jason that orphek does look awesome, but for my small reef $900 is a bit much for the lighting. That is double the razor price and if I decide to photon even if it isn't as effecient it will take more than the lifetime of the LEDs to compensate for that cost. but the articles at the bottom of the main page were good. Thanks

Color and lack of programmability options have been the complaints I've heard about.

If you are set on trying out a R420R, Easy Aquariums had 2 - 120W 16k used lights for $300 each the last time I was there a couple of weeks ago. I was very close to getting one, but after doing a lot of research online looking at tanks with them, I decided not to do it. The coverage just wasn't there with only 2 clusters of lights, they do offer 120 optics for them. And the size of the fixture didn't work for me in my setup, it wouldn't fit well inside my hood to position it correctly.

I think razors are a cheap light with a few bells and whistles. Just me. Have you considered the Ai hydra? I don't remember the size of your tank right now sorry but there a pretty good price. www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_display.cfm?c=3578+3733+10704+28916&pcatid=28916Remember with a good led less watts doesn't always mean less light. Kessil is a good light as well. In all reality you want pwm because they're more efficient and run cooler so the fixture performs better and last longer. coralux.net/?p=381

I've heard a lot of people don't like the razor LEDs. +1 I have seen at least 4 people switch from razor to value and "IT" series led... personally next light I buy for a display will be one that uses multi-wattage led (3w and 5w led) but for the price of them right now you are better off building one... once plasma becomes more affordable I think led will get allot cheaper
