As Lance and a few others have stated these types of filters are designed on water pressure and a certain grain sized sand to filter or "Polish". A few years ago filter companies switched from regular sand arrogate to silica sand because the silica could be milled down to a smaller and more uniform size to prevent clumping and caking causing blockage.
I am going to bow out and stop commenting on this forum as according to Gotareef my experience, time in the hobby, and working for the companies I have mean nothing and no one cares. He's right and I'm done.

You can get the big blue canisters for like 30$ apiece. Run one with some kind of a particle/sediment filter and one with carbon/gfo. I've just started using hypersorb by Seachems and it seems to be working really well And they say you can regenerate it with bleach. I don't I just use it till it's spent and throw it out. Might be a little expensive for your application unless you regenerated it though.

He's right and I'm done. Heated discussions get out of hand sometimes when there's many different personalities, differences in opinions and overall most of us in the hobby ("new school" or "old school"lol) just do things differently. That's what this forum is for. When I do something stupid I want one of you vets to tell me what I'm doing stupid and help me pick up the pieces! Everyone's experiences and knowledge is pertinent on this forum. If there comes a time when it's not I'll be out that's for sure. Sorry Rob for getting off topic again....
