Been wanting to set up a seahorse tank, and starting to do the research. Want a pair or Reidi or Kuda seahorses. Getting lots of information and some of it mixed. Has anyone kept a seahorse tank here and what were your parameters? Looking for size of tank, temp, light intensity, corals/algae kept with them, water flow, general set-up. I have heard that they both like bright and low light. Clean and dirty tanks. No corals and algae only or soft corals. Would like some feedback or recommendations of places to go for research. Thanks!

From when I did all my research on them when I was about to do one here is what I found. They like pristine tanks. Low flow, lower light, can keep corals if they are non stinging, macro algae a plus if they can hang onto it. Size, depends on how many but they like height rather than width but generally above 30 gallons. There was someone on the forum here that I wanted to buy some off of but he has since disappeared. They also like colder temps so a chiller may be required. Checkout seahorse.org for more information.

I had sh last year. my setup was a 30g xh tank with branch rock algae and a few softies. they are not hard to keep just be prepared to spend allot of time with them. sh dont have a stomach so you have to feed minimum of twice a day... you need cooler water because warmer water causes some type of bacteria to grow in them....
imo- if you want sh, no more vacation, long trips, even being gone 1 day can mess them up

Oh I was not necessarily suggesting he buy them from there just that he visit there for info on keeping them. they do seem to be doing well for her. ive watched her feed them many times when im there. im allways captivated by them and watch them every time im there. since u have to feed them so often Im guessing when some one stops by the tanks they are in she goes over and feeds them to get u more interested in them and possibly a sale for her

When I was in Hawaii last year we visited Ocean Rider seahorse farm in Kona. I was really impressed by their set up and philosophy. Definitely not cheap. If I were to get any that's where I'd go. www.seahorse.com
