I encountered about a dozen northern lined seahorses (H. erectus) in some of our trawl nets and took them home as my first sw tank a few years ago. In my experience, which is limited to this species, they were relatively easy to keep. I kept these particular fish for about two years. They even began spawning when I moved them upstairs into the warmer living room. I didnt try to rear the babies though because I wasnt set up for rotifer cultures and was traveling alot of work at the time. I captured them in in February in the Gulf Of Maine, so I kept them cool. This species is native all the way up to the Bay of Fundy, I believe. I kept them in an unheated tank with a simple hang on back filter in my basement all winter using ocean water. They fed readily on live brine shrimp, copepods, and eventually frozen mysis. I would recommend that you keep them without other species in the tank and just about anything can out compete them for food. Keep them at low flow. If you can find Erectus, they are a great big seahorse, thats a lot of fun to watch and pretty easy to keep. Best of luck.
