So it looks like my aqua clear will just maybe fit on the half ten. Only issue would be coming up with a way to cut back the flow, cause will be pretty strong that close the sand bed.

Try a sponge over the intake. What size filter is it?

Don't forget, except for the 110 they all use the same motor, so you can always get the impeller for a smaller size filter.

It's an aqua clear 70. So I can use an impeller off any other smaller brand of filter? I have a small one from Wal-Mart here, but that one might be small. Might try the sponge idea first. I want just enough flow so as not to constantly be stirring up my sand bed. Maybe I'll run both of them, one as just fuge one as actual filter media. I need to come up with some sort of way to hang the led strips to. At least I will have a few projects to occupy me at the campground lol

The model 20 would be much better.

I used the bigger one because I modified it to serve a refugium

You can use any smaller AC impeller in the 70. The only problem with modifying one (I assume you mean you broke off some blades) is that I would think it would be out-of-balance and tend to be noisy. You can buy the smaller impellers on Amazon for about $12.
The ACs also seem to slow down quite a bit if you overload them with media.

I broke off two blades on one of them but it's not noisy at all, unless sand gets sucked up there. I'm gonna try it with the way it is now and see how it works. My little fuge is pretty stuffed so maybe the flow won't be much as I think. Will know tomorrow Sent from my HTC6525LVW using proboards

Another thing I've seen people do is put a piece of plastic or whatever on the part where the water exits to disperse the water more evenly on top of the water instead of it getting sent straight downwards. I have a 5-15g aqua tech I use on my 5g tank that's 10"deep and it still clears the sand out of the middle of the sand bed. But I haven't added the plastic yet maybe I'll try it today.

I don't want to add anything to much to the out put that will keep pods from flowing back into the tank. Gotta keep the mandarin fed! I used to have a piece of filter pad there then realized all the pods were being trapped in the fuge lol

Not bringing up a picture. I have a piece of egg crate in front of it to keep the macro algae from flowing out.
