This skimmer overflows out of the vertical adjustment tube. It's loud as hell and it splashes all over the place...I've been playing with the thing for a few days now trying to quiet it down and not make such a mess. I sucessfully flooded my cabinet yesterday, got pissed and just unplugged it.
My question is can I put a PVC 90 on the overflow with a pipe...basically plumbing it where I want it to flow or is that going to screw up the water level in the skimmer?

you need the sponge so it dosnt splash all asm style skimmers are like this
I am thinking of modding mine as well, I am going to put a ball valve with a 90 so i can adjust it without having to lift a tube up and down

Modded the skimmer today. It wasn't as straight forward as it should have been. I couldn't figure out why it kept overflowing even with the valve wide open. Short answer is you need to replace the existing adjuster pipe with a shorter 1" PVC. If you just push the tube all the way down it won't work. Took me a while to figure that out.  |

If you continue to have overflows:
So even though the valve is wide open, the min water height within that skimmer will be about where those 2 street 90's are (middle to the top of them). You could try a band saw or the like, to shorten the sockets in the valve, making it more compact and lowering the water level in the skimmer.
You don't want a skimmer drain system to be wide open. They run most efficiently when they are more than 50% closed. I've found that fewer bubbles escape this way as way as increasing contact time. I imagine that skimmer would like to run with the internal water like being about 1.5" below the bottom of the cone riser
Gave valves are more compact by nature than ball valves. Again if there is further issue, you could try a gate valve, with a T on top (to vent), to a street 90 back into sump.

Anyone have any ideas on how to quiet this thing down? It's the loudest skimmer I've ever heard. It makes a sloshing sound from the pump. It sound like a front load washing mashing when its sloshes back and forth...just as loud too.
I've had skimmers that were loud because of vibration from the pump but nothing like this...ohhh and it was doing this before I modded it. Skims great but can't hear my TV. So far I HATE this skimmer and wish I kept the Coralife that everyone tells me sucks.

Is there a silencer on it? Idk much about these skimmers but it's the only thing I can think of?
