Have you tried reseating the pump? I don't remember it being as loud as a dishwasher that's for sure. Glad it skims good though! Maybe try something underneath it to baffle the sound?

Anyone have any ideas on how to quiet this thing down? It's the loudest skimmer I've ever heard. It makes a sloshing sound from the pump. It sound like a front load washing mashing when it sloshes back and forth...just as loud too. I've had skimmers that were loud because of vibration from the pump but nothing like this...ohhh and it was doing this before I modded it. Skims great but can't hear my TV. So far I HATE this skimmer and wish I kept the Coralife that everyone tells me sucks. IMO ASM's are terrible for most application for that reason alone, NOISE. The sedra pumps do pull in an impressive amount of air. Every single time I had put one on a customers tank they would complain, then request an upgrade. Its like you are describing now, yes there is sucking of air, but the pump itself is very loud and cant be quieted(in part why they have such a poor power factor). They are great for the basement sump/fishroom! |

Just made a silencer out of a pill bottle. You wouldn't think it would make that much of a difference but wow! Thanks for the suggestion

not sure why yours is so loud? mine is about 2' away from my spot on the couch and isnt that loud. Imade the gate valve mod but haven't used it yet, right now all i hear is the water splashing
btw- these dont have sedra pumps they are a rio pump... and yes sedra pumps are loud come listen to my sedra 5000!!

if you want a superskimmer I have a few skimmer bodies here... no pump but they take a rio pump like on the asm...

Thanks for the suggestion I've never heard of this but I just read that you can put cotton inside the pill bottle silencer to make it even quieter. Also where the pump is in the bottom of the skimmer do you have any type of rubber pad underneath it? Vibration pad? Lastly I found this thread about it idk if you already saw it but?... www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2024167 When I had my first skimmer it was loud as bleep!!!
