I ordered my baffles today for my sump, and I messed up. The girl on the phone said that when they sand the edges, the length will shrink slightly. So I ordered 17.5" length for my tank, thinking it would shrink about 1/8" that would give me a nice fit. WRONG!! They are exactly 17.5", all the sanding did was take off the sharp edge.....nothing with the length.
So I'm heading back to Portland Glass in the morning to see if they can shorten them about 1/8" or so.
Should have just ordered them at 17-3/8" to begin with..........could have been high on silicone fumes by now.
LOL

Boy this thread went down hill fast. In this case, size does matter.
They should be able to grind a little off of the ends. Another thought, are these baffles for a glass tank? I had some made a couple of years ago and found they fit better if the bottom corners are rounded a little to better fit the curves of the silicone along the bottom of the tank.

LOL...........10 replies, no help
Yes, they are for a 30 breeder. I drilled it last night, ordered the baffles today hoping to start installing them tonight. I'm thinking they can just grind them down the 1/8" I need removed, they should have a diamond grinding wheel.....same one they use to take the sharp edges off.
Hoping to do the sump install next weekend, want to give the silicone a full week to cure.

I've got some glass baffles in my 40 breeder sump on the ray tank. It really helps to fit if they can round the bottom corners. Did you get the 30 breeder from Easy Aquariums? I picked up another one last weekend from there.

I'm pissed at myself for listening to her and not just ordering them 1/8" shorter.
What kind of grinder does it take?
I have tons of tools in my garage, but never had to work with glass.
