With the possibility of a storm coming. I just wanted to know what most everyone else does to prepare. I have a battery backup system that keeps my internet router on about half an hour longer than the power goes out to enable my controller to shoot me and my girlfriend a text message and an e-mail. also have been thinking about getting the vortech battery backup but havent almost wish i had it now haha!

I would get a battery backup like the one for your computer and plug just a heater and a power head to it.

I would love to have my own generator but I get by only having a power inverter that I hook up to my truck battery to keep a heater going in the worst storms.

I used to use a 700w inverter off my car for a couple pumps an air stone and heater but I figured just the 7 fish in my tank would cost about a grand to replace then my coral!! I could justify buying a $500 generator
even a $150 generator from the auto parts store would run most smaller tanks.
a generator is a must have having a tank in maine

I have a computer backup but will never use it. I'm on the schools power grid. I've lost power for maybe 20min at the most and only lost power 2 times in 7 years.

Yeah... we have some generators at the fire department that i can borrow if need be so i am not too worried about it... just wanted to see what everyone else was doing! I thought about getting a marine battery and getting an inverter just as a backup but never got around to it... Definately a good idea with the inverter!

Definately a good idea with the inverter! the only problem is you can get a small generator for cheaper than a marine battery and inverter

True... I will have to look into it.... Might be able to get a generator pretty cheap... my friend works at a dump and people throw them out all the time for stupid reasons... usually something small that needs to be fixed on them... I will have to tell him to keep an eye out for me!

Well I got paranoid and got a inverter and deep cycle battery today, I couldn't find any small generators while I was out. Maybe for next time, as I think the inverter will be handy anyway.

I cant run tv's because I am powering 2 apartments with my generator. but both places get heat, water, refrigerators a couple lamps, and of course my tank
all from a $600 generator from home depot
if anyone is close and needs to borrow a 700w inverter let me know

I use a battery operated air pump. It is made for use in a live well on a boat. It makes a ton of bubbles and runs on 2 D cell batteries for 54 hours. It's not a power head but it keeps things moving. As for temp, I heat water on the gas range and pour it into a milk bottle and put the closed bottle in the sump to transfer heat. The pump is called Bubbles and is available at Cabbalas Sporting goods. If it goes on for a long time I might have to knit some little sweaters for the seahorses.
