I bought the stuff at petsmart and it didn't seem to cure. Today theres a bunch of white crap floating in my frag tank. I have white walls, and a white ceiling, most my coral is looking fine. I picked up some of it and smelled it....I also recently took an epoxied frogswap out that didn't make it...it smells like the semicured epoxy on the frag plug, my skimmers been pulling out a bunch of stuff, going to hit it up with a waterchange tomorrow, any thoughts? Has anyone ever experienced this before? I'm definately going 100% drill and glue from now on. I'm hoping this is what it is and not paint from my walls or ceiling I imagine if that's the case my tank will be in a world of hurt soon.

Weird, could have been the epoxy but tough to tell. I'd put some activated carbon in there just in case. Drilling and glueing is the only way I mount branching Lps frags now.

+1 I only use 2 part epoxy when the rock is dry so the epoxy can set. It doesn't set well when it's wet anyways. Even if it says it does. I have used it in my tank before though awhile back. But I didn't get any white film in my tank? It's supposed to cure pretty quickly isn't it?

I use the same stuff as well. It does not stick well under water. I end up using more than I think I need and haven't had any problems......yet. Are you kneading it enough? I always over knead it until it gets very sticky then try to apply at least one side to a dry frag plug.
The epoxy, even when floating around, should be harmless.

if you over knead it the talc comes out and it falls apart. the white stuff you are seeing.... when I used epoxy putty I use "quicksteal"

I found that the epoxy is great for making a structure but it doesn't stick well to wet rock. You need to use it in conjunction with super glue. The glue will make sure you have a good adhesive and the putty allows you to create a surface where there isn't one. I also found that the liquid glue works better than the gel in this situation.
I used the Petco stuff and it worked well. I think you may have either over or under kneaded it as Rob stated above.

Maybe I'm not over kneading it, but I'm certainly being thorough. I haven't experienced any issues with it falling apart on me.

I've used it underwater before and it's always been dry the next day. Doesn't hold things together very well when used wet but it did harden for me. Did you mix it well? Kneed?

again I am guessing it was mixed to much... it happned to me a few years back when you were mixing it did it stick to your fingers and get real soft like paste?
the "soapy" silky feel is the talc

Petco has two brands (or at least S. Portland does)I was told that only one can be used underwater. I believe the Fluval Sea is the brand that can be used underwater.

Thanks for the explanation of talc. I feel much better knowing my ceiling isn't falling into the tank.only thing that looks mad are my red hornets everything else looks great.

I've always used the instant ocean epoxy under water. I've always mixed it till it stuck to my fingers and then molded it to rocks

Just an update after my water change things are looking much better but the epoxy is still deteriorating from the few frags I left it on. Guess I'm going to pull out the glue and drill this weekend and attach them that way followed by another WC
