did you find out if it was the wrong kind of epoxy or if it was just mixed to much? I ask because I just got wood putty to finish a stand waited 2 days for it to dry then I read the package the wood putty never dries (wth)......

It was instant ocean so I assumed it was right, I guess I kneaded it too much I'll done with epoxy.

epoxy has its uses but like stated in another post use the epoxy to make a shape to hold the coral then superglue the coral in

Mine flaked as well. Still holding together, though. Nothing in the tank seems to mind.

working in the industrial coatings business as a coatings inspector, its well known epoxy wont hold up well to uv light. It has a tendency to chalk out and degrade. Usually, we top coat it with urethane or something to protect it from sunlight. so it is not surprising that a reef tank is not a good environment for the use of epoxy.

with led you dont have to worry about uv light I have used epoxy putty for years without a problem (that I didnt cause)

Anyone know if this is reef safe? It says it's drinking water safe and it also says it cures under water but I wasn't sure. I thought I remembered someone saying they use jb weld? Attachments:

I was told it is not good for reef tank. It works in water like the label says but heard it leaches out.

I was looking for an epoxy and was only thing i could find at local hardware store. I cant remember who said it was bad but it was someone from this site. maybe I can look up the thread

I believe I was told this was safe on this forum in the past when I asked, but it was actually cheaper to buy double the amount on eBay with Instant Ocean brand.

well think of it this way copper is safe to use for drinking water but your snails will not like it
