Hi all,
It's been a while...I recognize some of the names on the forum so some of you may remember me. I haven't had a tank set up for about two years but I have the itch so I'm going to get back into the hobby. I pulled out some of the boxes and I still have enough equipment to set up a tank which is a bit surprising because I sold a TON of stuff. It's good to see that there is a forum kicking around.
Anyway, I'm going to start small and set up a ten gallon SPS tank with a ten gallon sump. I also plan on building my own DIY LED fixture and I'm going to make an attempt at a DIY controller. Looking forward to sharing the build with everyone.

Yup, I was a regular on SWAM and unfortunately saw it fall apart.
On that subject is Joe (Snowmaker) still around? I lost touch with him after I got out of the hobby.

I don't think Joe gets on the forums much anymore, and he's downsized his tanks a lot. Last time I was there he was taking down the 120 and moving to a 40 breeder.
Welcome to the forum.

Too bad to hear he tore down the 120. That was the nicest tank I've ever seen in person. His Cuddle fish tank was awesome too. The 40 breeder I had I bought from him...well traded. Here's a pic of the set up in it's glory.

Thanks for the welcome everyone. I ordered some glass hole drill bits yesterday. As soon as they get here I'll buy the tanks and start a build thread.
I'm also doing a ton of research on LEDs right now and will be building a DIY fixture. Probably order the stuff this week.

Have you thought at all about using one of these? Cheap light with good led's and probably cheaper then buying all the material. The company that makes the led lights everyone else has makes smaller lights to. They have pretty much every size, color combo and watts you want on eBay for the par 38 lights. And you can get a flexible goose neck to put it over your tank and it looks good.

Do you have a link to the ones you're talking about. I'm actually thinking I might go that route because I can't find a reasonably priced heatsink.
The one thing I don;t like about the GU10 bulbs is that they are like spot lights. I know it's only a 10 gallon but I don't want to have a bright spot in the middle of the tank

I have done some DIY LED fixtures and controllers in the past and currently working on a modification for one of my two channel full spectrum fixtures to make it fully programmable along with a remote control option to change your intensities rather than the knobs. I might be able to provide some help here ahd there if you need it. Let me know.
