+1 gotareef lightning storms may be natural but it scares the heck out of fish everytime I've seen it on a tank! Unnecessary stress is never good inside a glass box! I also really like the sunrise-sunset feature but wouldn't break the bank to get it on my tank. I also don't really find controllers necessary for me personally because I'm home most of the time and enjoy slowly ramping up my lights on my own and getting to watch everything wake up every morning it makes me notice when things are off with the tank!! (Not everyone has time to do this) Updates and pictures when the ball gets rolling this sounds like an awesome set up and diy is always my favorite subject! Sometimes to a fault

No never seen reactions really, just the effect, and figured it was natural so didn't think would stress. But I guess if your fish are tank raised.....Lol

The cost is relatively cheap. I have all of the components ordered for about $125.00. That includes all of the LEDs, drivers, Adruino Mega board (controller) and LCD touchscreen. I'll have probably another $30 or so in materials to build the fixture and another $13 for a real time clock for the Adruino. This stuff is super cheap. The only thing that sucks is waiting a month for it to come from China.
