Does anyone have any advice on how to get a simple ocellaris clown pair to host in a RBTA? I read you can put pictures of the same variety clown/bta, on tank and they would host within two days. Didn't happen after 2 weeks. Any other suggestions? The RBTA put its foot very deep, at night it's not accessible, but is huge in daytime.

I got one from petco that was hosting there and it took to the RBTA right away and my other one that wouldn't host followed suit and now both host my RBTA and frogspawn

I got my clowns and RBTA from Cultivated Reef, it's been a couple months and they won't host anything. I have frogspawn, branching hammer coral, Xenia, and ricordea, they have no interest in any of those. I know it still may be too soon, and the clowns are good sized already.

Yeah or get clowns that do already host and they show the others to do it! From everything I've read and been told it's hit or miss with tank bread clowns. Some will host and some just have no interest no matter what. They breed them in bare bottom tanks and keep allot of baby's in tanks with nothing in them to exercise the instinct to host an anemone.and the longer the breeding goes like this down the gene pool I think the less you'll see clowns hosting in our aquariums with everyone going to tank bread fish. Witch sucks because it's one of the most beautiful things to witness the symbolism between the 2

Mine are tank bred and they started hosting naturally after have an RBTA in the tank for a couple of months. I honestly think the whole tank bred clowns won't host is a bunch of hooey. Give them time, they are an animal, each one is unique and will behave differently regardless of breeding. They will probably surprise you some day!

My clowns took a little while then they hosted to my gonipora. But at night when that coral shrinks they go for th RBT. It is an awesome sight to watch. It's one of the things that got me interested in this hobby

I feed my fish and coral with a medicine syringe that measures the medicine out... I would use mysis or brine and squeeze out one or two shrimp so the fish knew what it was, then I'd squirt a large amount into the nem and it made them go after it. I've heard of people putting them in a bucket with each other so they have to meet but I think that could be stressful. I've also heard of some people putting a picture of another clown on the glass next to the nem and it is supposed to encourage the real clowns to get closer

Thanks, I have tried the picture thing for over a week now, currently trying to figure out how to hold my iPad against the tank in a spot where my clowns swim a lot, and also get a video to loop. All the apps I found that claim to loop YouTube don't seem to work.
That syringe thing is interesting, I may look into that.
I also saw, similar to the bucket, putting the nem and clowns in a breeder net. Might be less stressful, but I would never be able to get my nem out safely. That foot is a good 6" deep.

I did the syringe thing every time I fed, it only took a little while for me but it may not work for everyone. :-)

Thanks, I promise not to sue you if it doesn't work! I have a bunch of fish, so it may be hard to isolate the clowns.
But I am hoping iPad video against the tank works first. Much easier in my opinion.

As with everything else in this hobby...patience. Give them time, mine took over a month but now they don't leave. They'll figure it out on their own.

When clown fish first begin to mate do they "beat each other up"? My pair seem to be getting nicked up and showing signs of breeding

some will never host anything..... I had a pair that hosted the top corner of the tank.
maybe try to scare them into it? keep pushing the clowns into it and maybe they will realize the nem is protection
