Been doing research and asking around and all i've really found out is that most people think there protien skimmer is the best and the one they had before is the worst!! lol either way just figured i'd put it up for a little friendly discussion and throw a vote on top of it as well. also feel free to add a skimmer in the comments if you got a better pick. or tell me if you'd like me to add it to the list?

lol I know! I'm leaning towards the sca-302. I mean at that price and with the reviews I just don't know if it can be beat?? I'm sceptical about the pump power from my research and would be the only thing that would make me go for the reef octopus but the extra 80$ makes me think i can go with the sca-302 and if the pump isn't powerful enough I could always get the Reef Octopus Replacement Protein Skimmer Pump 2000 Needle Wheel and put it on the sca-302. for still less then the $80 i'd be saving?

Nobody's going to vote? Lol it's just an opinion nothing to be afraid of!;D I'm voting for the sca-302 only because I just bought one.

Anyone have any thoughts/input about Hydor Slim Skim Protein Skimmers? [http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_display.cfm?pcatid=23714]
They appear to be highly rated and reasonably cheap, and seemed like a good choice for a 30g due to not having a sump.

Haven't hooked up the new skimmer yet because it came with a broken ceramic impeller shaft but I can say that after a call to sc aquariums that there customer service is top notch no questions asked sent new one right out! Actually the guy I spoke with said he was going to send me the whole impeller just in case! Always nice to have some spare parts! Got the impeller in and it is the entire impeller!;D very happy came in on Monday so it was shipped out very fast for the mishap with the broken part I'm more then satisfied so far with results! Hopefully the skimmer works great I'll keep the forum updated on the new skimmer!sc-aquariums sc-302 rated for a 180 gallon tank Sent from my SCH-R530U using proboards

Just a quick update I have had the sca-302 now for a few weeks and I'd have to say I'm very happy with the performance of this skimmer it only took like half a day for it to break in and it pulls 3 to 4 times as much gunk out as my old skimmer! Great bubble production and relatively small size for the tank size it's rated for. The best thing about this skimmer is the price I got this skimmer for 150$ shipped and it's rated for a 180g.I think it'd work for a 120g with a 40B sump easy. Imho. Made a quick video of it in action not much just to give people an idea of how good it works for me. This is 2 days of skimming without emptying the cup.

i have a TUNZE® DOC Skimmer 9410 which is over kill for my 90 w/ 29g sump. i dont enjoy it. it's very finicky. i have to clean it everyday. it only pulls to a certain level then stops unless you adjust it again and again. then when you clean it you have to re adjust it or it will spill over. it pulls plenty, but i wouldn't recommend it. over priced.

I just picked up a reef octopus bh-2000 hob from bulk reef supply. It cost me 220 but the thing is a beast. A put it together and let it go and it was already pulling some serious nastiness out of my tank inside 3 hours. Couldn't be happier.
