Hello everyone I'm sure you all know that I just got a whole bunch of free live rock and fish. The issue is the algae is not hair algae it's bryopsis... like turf for golf course. Does anybody have any really good ideas to get rid of this without killing the rock? The only thing I can think of is pressure washing it off?

I got a few pieces of the mushrooms that were in that tank, and a gsp, was wondering the same thing, I scrubbed what I could off w a small piece of steel wool, I don't think it did the trick though.....

To be honest, I would bleach it and let it dry out in the sun. That stuff is nasty and hard to get rid off, and with this stuff, it's better safe than sorry.

No I didn't get the ricoridas, someone also beat me to them.....I think im going to just cut off the mushrooms from the rock that I got them on, and re glue them onto another piece tonight. Anyone have any tips on gluing? I can get them to stay but seems to only be when I use a GLOB of glue....

I've read about increasing mg to 1500 does the trick but I'd research that a little further...also read something about hydrogen peroxide.

you cant ever kill it I have been dealing with it for 6+ years. the only thing i havent tried is using a power washer to peal a layer off the rock

I have beaten it with peroxide, good ro and adding crabs to my cleanup crew. I drained my tank. Sprayed a mist of peroxide on all rocks. Refilled and did consistent water changes for a month and pulled out all white dead algae I could. Safe to say it does appear to be gone. So far so good. Time will tell.

I used peroxide on most of my rock when I set up my 180, its been 2 years and it came back with a vengeance about 6 months ago.
I dont have the "cleanest" water that could add to it but all my lps are happy, and dont think my sps are complaining...

Peroxide did help in removing some of it. But it would take allot of peroxide for as thick as it is. I really like the shape of a couple of the rocks but im undecided what to do at the moment. :/

it's definitely a beast to get rid of. I feed reefchili and I swear if I over feed at all I start a bloom.

Well, Ill try to pressure wash and see how that goes. We could possibly try the mag thing in Jess's 40B after she moves the corals and such  |
