Is the coral polyping out everyday or staying closed? It looks like it could be either necrotic tissue or some type of algae.

polyps comes out everyday normally.... I rubed the black and it peeled off like fresh mushrooms (food) under cold water. Curious if i should do that..lights just went off as i was doing the rubbing...

Sounds like its either a type of algae or bacteria then. In most cases it's perfectly fine to leave the stuff on the base of the coral if the coral itself seems unaffected. But if there's any drastic change in the coral there's a good chance that underneath the algae or bacteria, there could be necrotic tissue.

looks more like an infection, peroxide dip and be ready to frag it if the coral is damaged under it
