Penny at AquaCorals in Fairfield is selling 75 gallon "cash and carry" 75 gallon tanks for 99$ this month if anyone is interested. Just don't tell her I am going to drill my new tank with a glass-holes.com kit.

I just scored a used one on e-bay with 4 bulk heads and 2 hole saws. Hope I wasn't bidding against any of you. Cant wait to drill my 40's. It's funny at that price the tank is not much more than the overflow.

It's funny at that price the tank is not much more than the overflow. do the whole saw's have pilot bits? and if you want to use it I have an old small drill press that you put a cordless drill in it defiantly helps!! there seems to be a few ppl that are drilling tanks... I say we have a tank drilling meeting, or a diy meeting. maybe put it on video for future diy ppl if someone wants a cost to coast overflow, or even a glass overflow. I could bring some glass to cut and a grinder to smooth the sharp edges. or if someone needs baffles for a small sump.......

hole saws do not have pilot bits, usually a press with the springs removed to avoid excess pressure are often used as guides. The Glass-holes kit comes with templates and shows you to do it free hand by starting the hole saw at a 45 degree angle and after it's started to cut in making full contact while keeping it wet by putting plumbers putty around the hole and filling the area with water. This is my understanding of things from youtube videos and info from other forums I have not actually drilled anything and I think a diy session would be awesome I definately like the idea, I would definately attend. Good call Rob.

Good call Rob. i always used the ones with the center bit (pilot bit) these are the ones we bought as a group a few years ago www.ebay.com/itm/1-7-8-inch-Diamond-Coated-Glass-Hole-Saw-with-Pilot-Bit-/170551656804?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item27b5abc164

also you have to make sure the pilot bit is tight in the whole saw! I watched 2 tanks crack because it wasnt tight. the center bit didnt cut totally threw, they added pressure to have the rest of the bit cut and it cracked 2 tanks before we realized the bit wasnt tight enough
