Yes. They put there foot in the sand for protection. Also if you have open pumps wrap them in something like a fish net because its going to move around a lot till it finds a good spot. Then if you move anything in your tank you can bet the carpet will move too. I had a carpet and it was way more trouble then there worth for me.

Going on 3 weeks and he is looking better every day. Mine is buried in a 3" pvc pipe with a cap, filled with sand. Hopefully my new pump doesn't cause any undue stress when it arrives.
