So, I have an opportunity to get a Stichodactyla gigantea that has been in its current tank for 6 weeks or so. It looks healthy, as near as i can tell. as most of you know my tank is only half lit right now. I'm sure it will have to be housed on the lit side, and i'm reading that it needs lots of flow. Anyone have experience with this Nem? Am I crazy for even considering this? I know I can count on this place for honest advice. Thanks.

I'm by far not the most experienced reefer, but knowing how finicky and difficult some species can be labeled "moderate care level" I would be very cautious about grabbing anything labeled "expert only". From what I've experienced so far in the hobby is it is best to focus on equipment before livestock. If it was me I'd grab proper lighting before livestock, but again I consider my self a absolute beginner.

mine was 2 1/2' when it was donated to the lagoon tank at vances along with my giant clownfish. I had it for years without a problem I even bought it at petco.
just keep it well fed and I think it will be fine

I'm a fan of the gigantea carpets for sure. I say go for it.

Any tips for acclimation? I usually float, then drip acclimate.

Same as anything else. You don't have much in your tank either so it will be good to add him now, less to damage while he searches for a happy spot.

Please excuse my lighting. I saw him eat before I bought him. Seems to be doing ok so far.

That's looks more like a Stichodactyla haddoni. Still a sweet anemone. Gigantea's are a bit different with slightly longer tentacles.

I was thinking the same thing. I only paid $25 for it. It looks like it should be green, but is bleached some.

Don't they need to bury the foot in sand?
