Need a stand and petco up here didn't have any left. Haven't checked down south but rather be safe than sorry. I have a wooden stand here could use but it is only 32" and my tank is 36". I'm wondering if a piece of 36" plywood over the top would be fine? I think it would but curious to hear others thoughts. It's not a long term setup. And Portland petco or somewhere down there may have a stand, but just in case.

2"x3" frame covered with plywood would work

I think you'd be better off using something like a few two by fours to spread the weight. 3/4 plywood might work but 1 inch plywood would be enough for sure i bet.

What you mean 2x3 frame? On top of the stand I have then plywood on top? I thought about running two 2x4s across the length of each side then putting plywood over it.

I'm pretty sure he's saying to make a frame out of 2x3 lumber and skin it with plywood. Please don't use the 32" stand with 2x4's on top.
The shorter stand is probably not rated for the amount of weight you're putting on it with the longer tank, so not only is the tank not supported well, but it's too heavy for that stand.
Go over on RC and look for rocketengineer's stand design. It's pretty popular and VERY sturdy, if not a little overkill.

I don't have time to build a stand, need it today. I'm hoping one of the southern stores just have one I can buy. I've used all sorts of things for tank stands before, I've actually only ever owned one tank that had a stand. The rest were all makeshift. This has been sitting on a dresser, unfortunately it's a 6ft dresser and not ideal for someone who will be tending my tank for a while.
