My 160g has been setup for just over 8 months. I only have 1 coral in the tank right now with 2 fish, 1 long spine urchin and a cleanup crew. I've gone very slow after an epic failure with my first tank (135g that was all setup but crashed after the move). Sand and rock was all new but, about 35lbs I kept to seed the new sun bleached rock. I've moved the rock for the last time 3 days ago (I hope). I'm a mason, so having the stone just right is a must. I know in time it will be covered but for today it needs to be just so. My parameters have been right on for the last 6 months. I've had 2 big algae out brakes but after adding the long spine urchin and a few emerald crabs it has not been a problem. I have noticed the urchin has turned to eating the Coraline. It's was labeled "reef safe" but it might be time for him to go. I hope after the frag swap I'll have 20 or 30 frags to bring this tank to life.

After the swap and seeing Robs tank I realized something had to be wrong with my math. After recalculating my tank is only 160g+ being 72"x18"x30" feels like I've been cruising around in a chevette and calling it a corvette. Is there any place local to buy large tanks?

after talking the other day and you describing your tank, I was thinking it must be a 150g.
any lfs can order a tank but they ARE NOT CHEAP!! I think my tank being rr goes for around $1200

The anemone is doing great. Only has moved about 3" from where I placed him. I'm not worried much about the cost I don't want to be shafted either. I'm still considering constructing my own or purchasing one. I've considered a in the wall mount and making a 3 sided fiberglass tank with just a main viewing area. I could do a 300g tank for about $300.00, If I used the 5/8 glass from my 160g.

if your going to build an inwall.. use plywood and a nice thick piece of acrylic for the front and back so you can look threw each side
then you could make it as big as you want. can you say 2500g shark tank!!

After doing some research I'm going to construct my own tank. It will be a 335g. I intend to cannibalize my 160g and utilize the front and back panels which measure 72"x30" 5/8 glass. so my new tank will be 72"Wx30"Hx36"D The front and 2 sides will be glass the bottom and back will be plywood. Total cost of material $200.00 for plywood, pond armor, glass polishing kit, lumber to mod my current stand, screws, caulking etc. I just think that's the most cost effective way to get what I want. I'll start a build thread when I get started.
Are there any negative aspects to having a mirror backed tank?
