I'm a big fan of filtration overkill. I've been running 2 Eshopps PS150 skimmers for a while and they've been decent for the money. But now that I've got a really significant investment in both time and money in my livestock, I thought I should upgrade. So, I picked up the AquaMaxx Cone 3 skimmer from MarineDepot.com. www.marinedepot.com/AquaMaxx_Cone_In_Sump_Series_Protein_Skimmer_In_Sump_Venturi_Needle_Wheel_Protein_Skimmers-AquaMaxx-UJ1173-FIPSISNW-vi.htmlYep...that's a normal size wine bottle next to it.... I just installed it a few minutes ago. That part took a whopping 15 min from box to wash and assembled to in the sump and adjusted. So points for ease of setup. Over the next couple of weeks I'll let you know how it works out.

Pretty nice looking skimmer overall. Keep us posted on how it does. For a while there Eshopps skimmers switched to the same Sicce pumps and they were putting out as much as 9 volts of stray voltage. Not sure if the pumps have changed much or not since earlier this year but worth keeping an eye on.

...Sicce pumps and they were putting out as much as 9 volts of stray voltage... Where'd you get this info from?

From personal experience testing them with volt meters while I worked at Aquacorals, It was one of the reasons that aquacorals stopped carrying eshopps skimmers. Both the atman pumps and the sicce pumps were having lots of issues. Could have been a bad batch of them but who knows. All I know is I saw quite a few that were putting out stray voltage into the tank water with everything else being unpluged.

Just check it with a volt meter with everything else unplugged or in a bucket of water. If its not putting out voltage in the water or just a couple volts then you should be fine with just a ground probe.

2days in and the new skimmer is performing great. It was actually skimming within an hour of installation. On top of that, it's very quiet. And no stray voltage.

It's been about 1.5 weeks now and what can I say? Love the skimmer so far. It's producing great quality skimmate, it's quiet, and a I swear my corals are looking brighter.
