I have several L plecos and found out rather fast that they really really like zucchini. That's a seasonal weed. Thinking ahead for winter, can I freeze some now for later feeding or will that just turn the squash into slime? How about peeling them, feeding the squash guts to the fish now, freezing the peels for winter feeding? I work hard on feeding a varied diet, but the zucchini for plecos is like chicken nuggets for kids.

How are you feeding it to them now? Are you feeding it raw or cooked? Freezing it will make it soften some when thawed... And many folks par boil veggies before freezing anyway. I'd just try slicing some up and freezing it for a day or 2. Then try feeding them that and see if they still like it.

I used to feed raw zucchini. It was usually available year round at the grocery store.

I’ve heard a lot of people feed raw zucchini to plecos. I’ve never personally tried it though, I always just used the big algae wafers.

Did you end up freezing any? How did it work?

It liquefied. The only thing that held up was the peel.
