Anyone ever breed rams? I had spawn a long time ago in a 65 community that didn’t end up hatching. I’m currently trying again. I have a good pair, but I’m not sure what to do about dither fish. I had a endlers/guppy trio in with them up until 2 weeks ago. The male was constantly harassing the female and hanging with the guppies. After watching a few videos it seemed like no one kept dithers with them, just the pair. So I removed the trio. After this they stay together all the time, but seem constantly stressed. I decided to grab some window tint from Walmart to give them a little privacy. They haven’t eaten since. Took tint off today when I got home from work. Wondering If I should though that endler and a couple virgin female babys in with them. Any suggestions?

Try adding the endlers again. What size tank are the rams in?

10g. I really don’t dare do much with them at the moment. They are in one particular back corner that there is absolutely no visibility at all. Barely moved to eat their bloodworm today and they normally take it right out of the ketchup bottle. May have eggs. Gonna give them a few days and see if behavior changes.

Noticed shortly after replying that they moved so I decided to grab the male endler and put him and two female babies from his last brood about a month ago. Rams anapped right out of it almost immediately. Both came right up to the front glass as if to say “don’t you dare take them away again!”

That is good. If the endlers don't work out, maybe try a few hatchet fish.

So as of 1 am last night (don’t ask), they were still protecting the egg rock. I noticed my brine hatch was over heated and decided to slvage what I could over the next few hours, dosing between all tanks, more heavily the rams. As of sunrise though (primary source of light), the eggs were gone and the pair had moved to under the foam filter (which is low and surrounded by slate. At 9 they are now in a cave at the opposite back corner under the tree stump. Will they move the babies that soon after a hatch or is it more likely they ate the eggs or fry? They still chase the endler away from wherever they hover

Just a side note, I’ve been doing salt and reef tanks for years but never really had that much interest for fresh besides the very occasional community, so I’m kinda noobish when it comes to this stuff

How many days since they laid eggs? Seems too short of a time for the eggs to develop and hatch, but could be. Can you shine a flashlight and look for babies. Sounds like they are moving young around. Exciting for sure!

Eggs were first spotted on Friday afternoon after work so sometimes between bedtime thursday and 1 on friday they laid them. Everything I’ve read says 3-5 days to hatch, but not to get too excited because captive bred rams parental instincts don’t always happen first few spawns.

First batch was no go. They laid eggs in a different spot last night. 🤞
