So, I was doing my water change today and after all was said and done I was counting my fish as normal. It turns out one of my clowns was missing (don't know if it was male or female as they were the same size and I've only had them about two months) I ended up finding him after moving all my rocks and he was on the bottom. I know he died either last night or today but either way, im so sad and of course its a CLOWN and it couldn't just be an easy replacement...it had to be a territorial one that are finicky when being paired. Anyways, I went to petco to see If I could add a new saddleback to my tank. They ended up having two saddlebacks and a black ocellaris in the tank with it. One was HUGE and FAT so I'm guessing she was female. The guy said it would prob be best to add her rather than the one of similar size because with being the newbie she would get bullied less due to her size. I had him start to package her up and a blenny for my tank. The fish got feisty and jumped from the little plastic box about 4 ft onto the floor. He proceeded to bag her up and put her with my blenny (which were in separate tanks, so shouldn't they be in separate bags?) Anyways, the guy asked if they could do like a 24 hour guarantee for the fish due to her jump but the manager said no. I then went to checkout and they tried to charge me 40 freaking dollars for my saddleback! I looked at the lady and said, this isn't an ocellaris, it's a saddleback and it should be around 20 bucks. She then looked into it and it turns out that they stocked them as "ocellaris" and because of that, that's what she had to charge me. SO needless to say, i drove an HOUR for a clown fish that they not only dropped, but they also tried to charge me double. I was TOTALLY un-impressed. Yes, I get their corporate but that should mean even more that they want to keep our business! I worked for the olive garden and if someone so much as bashed an eye lash they got their whole meal comped to ensure a good experience for them and make them return. I personally am so aggravated that THEY were wrong and they were trying to charge ME double for it...on TOP of dropping the damn fish! Needless to say, that saddleback stayed there and I'm still in need of a new buddy for my current clown. I guess what this whole story was for is How would you introduce a new clown fish to the tank? Would you pick the same size, would you go bigger, smaller? Help!

Sorry to hear all that. Definitely look for a smaller clown as a replacement.

I agree, go smaller, they are tough fish, they will hold up to the bullying. In clowns, the females will be bigger and usually darker than the males. Part of the bullying in clown groups is ensuring one stays male. They are funny fish!! My favorites!!

Which store did you go to? That sounds way off and the store should have made the change in the sku/tag regardless what they accidentally recieved it in as, I've done that many times. I've got a pair of black saddlebacks (not sure if thats what your looking for) in Portland that have been there for months. I believe I have them marked 35% off, if not they should be.

Wow, yeah, that sounds like a really rough experience. I hate always hate to be a pain but I am deifnitely one of those people who would have said something. That kind of customer sevice is just not right! I'm very sorry to hear about you losing your clown, that's sad. I almost lost my tang over the last few day (which would have been devastating) luckily he is now on the mend! Anyways, I hope you have much better luck with them in the future. I usually go to the one in S. Portland and have always had good luck there. The folks there are generally very helpful. My condolences!

I went to the Portsmouth new Hampshire store. I was sooo frustrated with the situation. My Saddleback is about two inches or so and I also checked out there Dover store which is kind of smaller not as big of a selection, they have 1 single Saddleback in that was quite a bit smaller than mine so that's when I decided to go look in Portsmouth to see if they have 1 more along the same size . Either way I'll hopefully be getting a new 1 today. How to be able to come to South Portland by the pair of Saddlebacks because at this point there probably paired. I know it sounds silly but I asked if I could give them my fish so I could get a pair and only have to pay for the one saddleback. They said they couldn't do that because they can't take fish from their customers which makes sense, just kinda bums me out. I'm just really scared to get another 1 have them fight to the death or something.
