I have been constantly dosing nitrates for well over 6 months just to have some nutrients in my tank. I use Spectraside Stump Remover it is potassium nitrate. I dose this 8 time daily and Seachem phosphate every other day in an effort to beat Dinoflagellates out of my system. I also used the planted tank site calculator for both it works great. How do your corals look?

My tank is a softie and lps tank so they like the extra nutrients. When I first started this system it was going to be an SPS tank and I ran it ULN. The SPS corals didn’t like that at all. I had a kid and decided I needed a less maintenance intensive tank that’s why I went soft. My corals grow great and have really rich good color.

Up to .25 No ill effects on anything. Some things have lost color recently darkening up a bit however I just got 6 new clams and put my lights in acclimate mode. Of anything most of the LPS and Zoas are much brighter. The acros look good but no crazy improvments.

I personally even with SPS try and run between 5-10 for nitrates. If you run at 2 and livestock eat it up it can drop back to 0 pretty quick.

My goal is 5 but I want to get there very very slowly ;0) I appreciate the feedback and hearing results from others with Nitrates in their tank. I run mud in my fuge I think the anerobic bacteria does to good of a job with my Chaeto and big skimmer eating it up. The zoas were looking incredible tonight!

So nitrates are stuck at 0.25 Ive doubled my dosing. I also increased feeding and noticed some loss in color and decreased growth upon a full water test my overfeeding doubled my phosphates so Im still working on increasing the nitrates while lowering the phosphate through a reduction in feeding.
