Complete restaurant demolition going on today while I was trying to drain and tear down a 8+ year old 220 gallon reef aquarium so that it could me moved. Many many rotten spots in the floor including a rotten spot directly under the aquarium stand. The tank had literally settled about 3/4 of an inch out of level because the floor was so bad. Lots of evidence of rodents as well. The stand is so rickety that I’m absolutely astonished that the tank has stood as long as it has. Hopefully I’ll be replacing the stand completely as well. To make matters worse, not only did I originally have only a 1 day notice to get the tank moved which I was luckily able to postpone for 4 days to prepare for, someone had shut power off to the building last night. So yea the tank went all night in negative degree weather with no heat and no filtration and the water temp got down to the mid 40s. Today went from a somewhat straightforward tank tear down to an all out rescue mission to keep fish and corals alive. What an absolute mess! All in all with some help I was able to get everything drained, all fish relocated to another tank, all corals and rock relocated to my house, all the equipment taken apart and the tank ready to move. We did have to toss out every bit of the six inch deep layer of sand and we flushed approximately 250 gallons of saltwater down the drain. Such a waste. All I know is I didn’t even do any of the heavy lifting and I’m still sore as hell from this.

Wow! Hopefully the remaining livestock will do ok. Nice looking zebra. Is the restaurant going to reopen? You should have put a call for help here.

Restaurant will reopen in a month give or take. I did have some help but it was too late for almost everything. I was able to save all the fish except one damsel. All the corals appear to be a total loss though.

The silver lining to this disaster though is that there will be no more flatworms, no more aptasia, no more ugly black sponge taking over every rock either. Assuming after t his the owners still want to set it back up, it will be a completely rebuilt tank starting from scratch and going through a complete cycle again. A clean slate so to speak.

Too bad all corals were lost. Like you said, clean start over.

Damn, man! Looks like it was heck of a project, but like you said, at least you can rid of the nuisances and start fresh if they want to set it up again. Call me if you ever need any help.

Made some major progress on the new stand for the cafe de Bangkok tank. Need to finish the floor, add some bracing on the inside of the doors to keep them from warping and then I can finish sanding everything and stain it. Attachments:

Nice! Was wondering if it was going back up. Same size tank?

The same tank is going back in there but the old stand was a severe hazard so I talked the new owner into replacing it with a new one.

So the restaurant has come a long way and now comes the tank rebuild. Got the new stand put in place yesterday.

Finally got the tank in place, the overflows installed, light grid down in the bottom of the tank to disperse the weight of the rocks, got the RO unit hooked up at the other end of the restaurant and almost 150ft of RO tubing strung up and finally started plumbing the main pump today. This has turned into a much bigger project than just moving a tank like the owner initially expected.

Well, at long last this tank has finally come full circle. This has seriously been the biggest pain in the ass project but the silver lining to it is there are zero pests now and the tank is completely setup my way. It’s definitely looking up from here.

A little update, this tank has been running again for about three and a half years now and it’s finally full of corals. The glass itself is heavily damaged on the inside thanks to pitting and scratches but the fish and corals are all happy. Attachments:
