I hate to tear my tank apart again since I just rescaped it, but I think the reason a lot of my corals are only partially opened its cause this stupid blue damsel I got with the new tank is nipping at them all!!! I just put in my new candy cane and the jerk weren't over and knocked it down, then nipped at it, caught him nipping polyps on my toadstool to. But, I can't catch him any tricks or traps I can try before treating my tank apart? He's pretty big, about 4in or so. And will need a home or he gets donated, to the flush or petco, at this point I'm so mad I don't care where he goes lol!!! Sent from my Galaxy S3 using ProBoards

What sized tank do you have? I have tried several and found this one to be the best/easiest www.bulkreefsupply.com/aqua-medic-fish-trap.htmlThe door on it is glass. Basically you let the trap sit on the bottom. Starve your fish for a day, put the food into the trap in that middle column, and then release the fishing line that holds the door up. I've caught an 8 inch hippo tang, 4 inch green chomis, 3 inch starcki damsel. Its not a cheap trap but it really does work well. Maybe it could belong to the forum, and whoever needs it could pick it up at the next swap or something?

It's 46gln. And that trap is a bit pricey lol. It would be cool to set up a little fund to use to get things like this that are kept within the group and distributed as needed. I wonder if I could fashion something along the lines of it.

One of my favorite tricks is to teach my fish to eat from the net. It is especially easy with aggressive feeders. I just rig a net so that it hangs in the water so flow goes into it, gently, so as not to wash all the food out. Experiment with the net empty first. When the target fish gets comfortable with his new feeding station it will be your job to act decisively and deliberately. With skittish fish it may be necessary to also get them used to you being right there. It usually takes a feeding or two, sometimes more like a week. I haven't used this trick in over a year but if I dunk the net in the water my clown will swim right into it. (Of course he has never been netted.) There is also another method if your patience runs out. The trout hook.

Lmao my patience is already thin, I'm ready to throw him in the snow bank!! I have two nets just sitting in the tank for him to get used to but he is oh so fast. I want him out tonight before he does any further damage, just watched him take the snowflake toadstool and toss it on the ground...mind you I'm watching him having a fit lmao. If I have to take my tank apart I will so mad at this fish right now!!! He is used to me being in front of the tank, I'll try the food in the net trick, I haven't fed them in a couple days so maybe, he's a pig to. Stay tuned!!!

When you decide to move, do it in one motion. You miss, he'll be on to you.

Watch where it goes when the lights are out, if it's in an accessible place wait 3 hours after the lights go out and net it...or if it's easier 2 hours before the lights come on..works with my clown...sometimes I where a headlamp too. Hope all your new corals are doing well don't worry if the devils hand doesn't open right up its more finicky than the rest. The little Nem looks great it really glows under my Kessil, I reduced my photo period to 4 hours to help him adjust.

Lol I did buy hooks!! But I was wondering about the barb...good idea, now to catch the RIGHT fish lol. He's a jerk and hides deep under the rock. That's what I do with my clowns, wait till lights been off a while and scoop then right out of their nems lol. The hammer, candy cane, snowflake and palau all opened right up. I figure where you said it never really did for you that it would be a while before it did with me as well. But as long as this darn fish is in there not much wants to open in my tank either. He's a nuisance!!

Here's the jerk hard at work db.tt/4DvNY2IVHe's attacking a tree coral attached to the devils hand. In the vid you can see the other leather behind him that he also pulled off from the top of that rock, and the snowflake toad stool behind the rocks that he's been picking at. He's making me so mad!!! So guess I'm pulling rocks because he is attacking everything so aggressively I won't have anything left waiting to trap him or catch him.
