Specifically I'm am looking for larger than LFS sized tiger barbs of any/all colors and ruby barbs. Will also consider large barbs of other types if you don't want them. Also, would love to start a school of Denison Barbs (aka Red Lined Torpedo Barb or Rose Line Shark).

Vance in Bucksport is the only place I've seen around that has had roselines. Probably easier to order them online. As I understand understand, they are becoming scarce now in the wild but farms supply the aquarium trade. Beautiful fish. As for big barbs, might have to watch ads for someone looking to rehome some of theirs. www.liveaquaria.com/product/2217/denison-barb?pcatid=2217&c=830+880+2217

I've seen PetPro in Bangor has roselines too. And Live Aquaria has a sale on them right now, so its tempting, but I hate buying online in the winter. The point is I really need larger than fish store size. That's why this is an ad to see if anyone is rehoming theirs :-)

Shipping in winter should be fine, especially with LA. Will keep an eye out for larger barbs. Petco in Augusta takes in unwanted fishes, maybe ask them to look for some. Can you get smaller ones and grow them out?

It's not the LA end I'm worried about it's my end. Our mail person is the worst ever and I consistently have horrible experiences with deliveries. I just can't trust her with live animals this time of year. I do check Augusta's Petco adoption fish frequently and take advantage of it often. The reason I can't grow out smaller ones, is that I have a turtle in the tank who terrorize and sometimes eats any small fish, but once they're larger she doesn't bother them and instead befriends them. A few weeks ago I acquired some larger barbs, and they are doing so well with everyone in my tank I wanted to get a huge school of them (just don't want to risk buying an expensive turtle meal)!

I see. LA uses FedEx if that makes any difference. You can also request to pick up your box at the Augusta facility (I have done this before) out on the Whitten road. FedEx lands in Portland early morning, gets put on a truck to Augusta, and gets sorted in Augusta usually around 8am.
You could always set up another tank for the turtle😉

Thanks for the pick up idea, I honestly had not thought of that!
The tank is for the turtle, the fish are just a bonus :-) Before she used to just eat everything and anything in her tank, I had a separate smaller tank for breeding fish, snails, and plants for her to consume. But now that it's all combined into her bigger tank with everything thriving I'm trying to expand the fish community for my visual enjoyment, and more friends for her!
