Who else keeps urchins in their reef tanks? After a lot of research I decided to add a blue tuxedo urchin to my tank. Everyone who is credible that I've ever talked to says they are totally reef safe. I've had it for 3 or 4 months now and all I can say is wow, what a cool little creature. It never bothers anything. At night it comes out the most and it leaves little white trails in the coralline algae that fill back in within a few days. I'll definitely be adding a few more. anyone ever kept the pincushion urchins?

I have a pencil urchin, sometimes knocks things over, and is actually strong enough to shift rock work, probably not so much of an issue with the finer needled urchins tho.
