Just spent a couple hours working up, cutting, and gluing, all the plumbing for a higher velocity pump for my return. now to wait 24 hours for the glue to dry and all the volatile stuff to off-gas. Hopefully, tomorrow I will be able to do the swap out and post the difference in flow rate. I'll have to take a couple videos to see the difference. I have a feeling I'll need to build a silencer for the drain pipe as well. We shall see.

I will say it only took so long because I spent most of the time searching my house for all my stashes of plumbing parts and going through them trying to figure out what would work best for what I had. the total I spent was for one coupling and a couple adapters to tie into stuff I have was about 7$ for plumbing this project so thats double cheap for anything fish tank related.

one coupling at the pump so I can disconnect it and replace it if I need and another up at the top where it will attach to the spray bar so I can manually prime the pump,(or change the spray bar out for a different design bar) it would be better if I could mount the pick up through the side of the sump, but I dont have the right size drill bit for the bulkhead. So I have to go up and over the side and back down for the pick up. I will have to prime it from the top.

I'm also going to add a particle filter to the end of the tank drain down pipe at some point in the future. I got my hands on an old commercial marinland sump and kifed some of the parts that I want, I just need an option for easily adding media to a high flow area in case of emergency and those marineland high stacks work well for that as long as they are plumbed under the drain. I'm not going to use the bio-tumbler from it though, thats just a nitrate farm collects too much detritus and too hard to clean. hopefully pictures of that to come once I get onto that project.
It just seems like life has gotten too busy for me to really dig into my tank ideas. I'll chip away at it, it's settling down now that the custody battle is over and my daughter is settling in at my house. We are achieving a routine and her grades are improving so I can unwind a bit now, and spare some attention for non-critical areas of life. sorry random venting lol

According to Randy from BOston Reefers, the toxic portion of pvc glue evaporates in about ten minutes after application. No need to wait 24 hours.... I did this with a new tank, only waited about an hour and all was good.

he's probably right. but after almost 20 years in the fish keeping hobby I have learned one thing. The only things that happens fast are mistakes and disasters. since my tank is established I have no problem waiting extra time just to be sure.

so two months with increased turnover rate I also put LED lighting over my sump for cheato growth my display is almost completely algae free now just a couple tufts here and there left. I was also having a bit of cyano on the right side that is completely gone now

I have to say this is the slowest I have ever built up any tank. I feel it's almost ready to start loading in the corals. I just wish I could gauge my lights better I cant tell if they are set too strong or too weak, having trouble keeping some really easy stuff in there. like the couple zoas I have just seem to stay stagnant. some are slowly dwindling instead of fourishing.

Brought water into work to test and my nitrates are high apparently my test kit at home is no good because they were testing only 10 at home and they're like 40 that's way beyond my acceptable range
