My AFS came with a cable with a male on one and female on the other. It's odd , anyone know why

You're talking a Neptune AFS? I don't have one on my Apex but I can't see why you would have one as the module connections look just like everything else. Sounds like they accidentally shipped you an extension cable instead of just a Male to Male.
