What controler?

I run an Apex by Neptune Systems. When I was on my controller hunt last year it seemed like everyone on the usual reef forums was landing on either an Apex or a Reefkeeper (by Digital Aquatics). When comparing the two, it seemed the Apex was generally easier to use, whereas the RK is recommended for those who are more tech savvy. I consider myself pretty tech savvy but didn't want to deal with extensive code when dealing with a fish tank (I deal with enough of that to pay my bills!).

I also recall lots of hobbyists who had issues with tech support with RK, although I can't speak of that personally. I can say that Apex has great support... their tech support essentially setup my controller for me - they logged into my computer through a remote desktop program and walked me through everything - AWESOME customer support! Getting up and running is 90% of the battle (configuring your wi-fi, etc)

The controller itself is great... gives me a lot of peace of mind, plus lets be real, it's pretty awesome being able to monitor my tank from my iPhone while I'm out of state!

For the price tag, some of the wiring on the probes (and the display unit itself) doesn't feel like it was built using the best materials, but overall, I don't regret the purchase. I was able to barter design services for my Apex, so whether or not I'd pay $500 cash for it is another question... I don't exactly rake in $, but for someone who wants to protect their reef tank investment (especially if you're planning on getting into high end SPS corals) I can see where it could definitely be worth every penny.
