Yes LEDs will work for your sump. I use either a 5500k or a 6500k, I forget which.

The aquagadget magnetic one for $60 on either brs or drs f&s cant remember but its a good unit, I have 4 of them on customers tanks grow cheato and no issues.

I would recommend a kessil horticulture light. I have been running one on my 150 cube and it grows 2 gallons of cheato a week. And they are pretty inexpensive for a high powered refugium light

I also run the fluval 6500 led nano light on my fuge at home mainly because I got a good deal on them but they hold up pretty well too. Given the choice Id still go with the aquagadget, the Kessil is the best choice but of space is limited hanging/gooseneck options may be limited and it costs about double. I really like how you can just use the magnetic mount and place the aqua right on the side of the tank.
