Hey guys, I use to have profile on this site and I lost the username and got caught up in school, so its been a while since I've jumped on. Now that things have settled down I hope to be on more often. I also have a question for you guys, I have a cabbage leather in my tank that hasn't come back after this summers heat wave, my pocillopora, zoas, and favia have all seen nice growth though. What do you guys think it could be and is there anything I can do?

Is your tank too clean? I know it sounds stupid, but from what I've personally experienced is that my softies like some nitrates or they kinda shrivel up. I have a colt/Kenya tree (unsure which) that gets really pissed off for a week when I do water changes. Like you I have a mix of everything and majority likes cleaner water. How often are you doing changes?

Since my skimmer broke I've been doing weekly 15% water changes and my nitrates are too low for my test kit to pick up so that could be it, what would you suggest I do?

Probably the wrong person to ask, cause I take care of my tank by sight. No testing. If something looks wrong I figure it out. My opinion. What size tank? 15 gallons a week, must be a pretty big tank? Maybe a smaller change or less often. My skimmer runs 24/7 but I barely collect anything. I have a 60g tank witha 20 gallon sump and I do 10g every 2 weeks for replenishment of calcium and other elements (reef crystals). Maybe cut your changes down. Pristine water is great for sps, but remember that softies and such come from tidal flats where the water isn't always pristine (pollution, sewage)

Thanks for the advice I think I'm gonna try cutting down the frequency of the changes. See how that works

I would cut down the volume of the changes and keep the frequency. I typically do a 10% every week.

Also what are you running for light water source...many variables could effect it.
