Is anyone else getting sponsored posts from "For the Fishes" on their facebook newsfeed. Look them up if you want to be angered. They post articles like
90% of all saltwater fish caught with cyanide
Mandarin were pledged by Petco not to be sold because they are caught with spears and cyanide
Why the cult of the aquarium hobby needs to stop.
Im very angry by a lot of the mis-information this group is sharing about the hobby.

If Petco isn't sellling mandarins....why does the Bangor store have a SKU up for mandarins right now??? The least they could do is fact check their BS.

It is sad though when stores have to advertise they only sell "safe caught" saltwater fish due to the number of fish caught with those practices

I'm guessing PetCo sources their fish from the same places as Live Aquarian, and most other stores. They are all evil...

I'm guessing PetCo sources their fish from the same places as Live Aquarian, and most other stores. petco is partnered with DRs foster and smith and live aquaria. you can use the extended aisle tablet in bangor (and other stores) to order right in the store and have them shipped to your house. some of the stock is ORA and other responsible suppliers that are interested in supporting responsible hobby practices, that is why wild rock is no longer available only aquacultured. i'll keep an eye out for those ads thanks for the heads up. Petco also strives to get all the fish they can tank raised instead of wild caught if that's evil you haven't seen the dark sides of this hobby.

I honsetly buy most of my fish at petco with good luck including my Mandarin that Ive now had for over 1 year. I asked them to please cite their source they failed to do so. Googling how mandarin gobys are caught shows the same spear fish method spearing the anal and dorsal fins. I cant imagine a mandarin needing to be caught in such a manner they are slow swimmers, and one article suggesting they are all caught that way or with cyanide makes me want sources. As far as mandarins do go I think its a necessary responsibility to ensure hobbiest buying them can meet their care requirements.

"They are all evil..." was just a subtle sense of humor, more to poke fun at the extremist groups portraying all the bad things about the pet trade. A little research on the internet will reveal many bad things, but remember you shouldn't believe everything you read on the internet. The Augusta PetCo does get some fish from ORA, and others from Fish Mart (in MA I think).
