Seamonkey84, went in to the Portland Petco today and I was quite impressed. Your stock has gotten much better and the store is looking nice. Picked up a tang and some stuff for my wifes tank at school. Keep up the great work.

Yup, the yellow tang. Quite impressed, not used to big fish store people knowing their stuff. But you sure did

I was just telling my wife the other day when I was in there that its rare to find a Petco with knowledgeable staff running the fish department let alone a reef hobbyists who can actually take care of the tanks properly. Way to go!

So whats everyone's favorite place to buy livestock and supplies from? Online or local- My favorite place hands down has got to be DrFosterSmiths.com for fish supplies and LiveAquaria.com for livestock. I love going to look at all the LFS but always prefer buying everything online. Its so much easier and I don't get stuck with the loss if something dies in the first 2 weeks.
Also lets hear about those places you'd never go back to again!

Deep Sea for livestock, and online for dry goods (especially Drs. Foster and Smith). I also just bought an LED from ReefBreeders, I haven't gotten it mounted yet, but I can't wait to try it out!

I know alot of you guys like deep sea, but I personaly will not do business with him. Ive been to aqua corals once, on my way back from Gregs place (cultivated reef), very impressed with her place and I loved her clam tank. I also went to little shop of pets in NH last year, not much for salt at that time, but I loved their parrots, every one of them was already friendly and sociable. I've ordered from DIvers den once, great service, but pricy (though the 15 day guarantee makes up for it I think) plus they have all the hard/impossible to find fish. Can't say enough about cultivated reef though, honestly I have to say over 85% of my corals have come from him, and all of the 15 maxi carpet nems I've got from him (he spoils me just a bit, I'm waiting for him to send me some of his business cards). The few pieces I've got from jays have all done well and at a good price (plus Jay will sometimes cut you a piece off a colony if you don't want the whole thing). Dry goods I try to get as much locally as I can, otherwise I will go through Greg as well for anything I want from reef geeks or marine depot, plus I'm sure he has other wholesale accounts as well (like through sea and reef, I'm getting my phantom clown and Wyoming white through Greg )

Care to tell us about your experience with Deep Sea Creations? This is first negative thing I've ever heard about Dennis and his store from another hobbyist. Just curious because if we do tell the bad, it gives the store owner a chance to read it and possibly make a change in their business practices.

Seamonkey84, I found the info you hinted at. Your probably right for not spelling it out. Everyone's entitled to their own opinion as am I. I myself have walked that same line as well as a few friends of mine when we were all young and dumb. We all make stupid decisions in life, especially when we are younger and for the sake of not dragging out I'll end it with this. Without knowing the full story, I have no right to be quick to judge. So with that said my opinion of him has not changed. I said before that I thought as a saltwater fish store owner, He is still a great guy and always great to buy from. I'll leave it at that.

I know some us here on this forum travel to NH on a regular basis. Just wondering if anyone has recently been to Zoo Creatures in Plaistow NH. They always used to have a ton of saltwater and reef livestock. Curious if its any different.

Tought I'd add these: Pet Pro: Airport mall Bangor. All his fish in the smaller tanks are in water treated with copper so extra caution is needed when acclimating. He will order just about anything, and was asked by some crazy for a blue ring octopus, he did order a much safer octopus. He has a lot of chemical supplies and his frags are hit or miss he has an entire tank for frags for $20 each and sometimes has very large colonies of comon stuff (zoa's and such) in it great for filler. He has higher end stuff in the lower tank up to $70 some of the corals are not in good shape and there are particular corals he cannot seem to keep Trumpet being one of them. Fish are averagely priced, can finds some great deals on close out tanks I came accross a 90 gallon wave tank with stand and sump for $400 once really wish I bought it. I wouldn't tank much advice from him as far as setting up things he carries lower quality stuff and seems more interested in the sale.
Maine Aquarium/pet Ellsworth: Same family owns this as petpro and pretty much the same deal I don't think they treat the smaller tanks with copper here as I've seen shrimp in them but it's worth asking, they have a smaller selection of frags but it's pretty much the same store in a different town.
Crystal Clear family pet: Ellsworth, I bought gorgouse coraline encrusted live rock there 5 years ago and still have it in my tank for $4 a lb. in the last 5 years their saltwater section has steadily decreased and the quality of their tanks is pretty terrible. They do however have a very wide selection of frozen foods.
