Deep Sea - what can I say the place is great! it is about 15 min from me and I spend way to much time there
Cultivated Reef- I have been up to see greg numerous times over the years always worth the trip!
atlantis- nice store but pricy
aquacorals- I remember the first time i went to the shop it was in her basement and I loved it then she built the new shop and tried to screw me with a sale! so I wont say anymore except i havent been back in around 5 years
petco- agusta is decent as far as petco's go it dosnt compare to bangor but it is nicer than topsham, auburn and portland
nh stores
jay's aquatics- great place it has gotten a little more expensive in the past couple years but jay imports so every once in a wile you have to get one of a kind corals/fish for great prices
oceans in glass- nice clean cut store with great prices

Its sad, I've been hearing less and less good things and way more negative things about Aquacorals in the last year. So much potential being wasted up there in my opinion. Too bad so many local hobbyists have had issues with that store. At least we have laid back people like Dennis at Deep Sea Creations and Greg at Cultivated Reef that know how to treat customers and aren't all about the sale. Can pretty much always get a really good deal from both guy's. Well worth the time to drive to either. Deep Sea Creations has a ton of locally grown corals and coral frags along with some awesome Sea and Reef clownfish breed here in ME in stock right now.

So my wife and I decided to take the kids on a family outing to Bangor today to go to the mall. We decided to stop into the Bangor Petco. They had a few nice corals, lots of nice saltwater fish and all. The store is awesome by petco standards but I was a bit disappointed to see that they only have half the amount of saltwater tanks that the Augusta and Portland Petcos have. I will say though that with the exception of the coral tank, all the rest of the fish tanks were very clean. All the fish I saw looked healthy. I would say its one of the best Petco's for the quality of livestock I saw there today.

That coral tank looked great 6 weeks ago, they did a water change and it crashed they lost a bunch of coral what you saw were the survivors of the crash and some new inventory. They now have a keep hands out of water sign on the coral tank...now it also has some cyano and aptasia in it. The manager Nick is a pretty good guy and will special order items he got me a ORA Yellow Watchman Goby for $16.99 that was $5 cheaper than their regular Yellow Watchmans

No doubt, Portland Petco is the best in my book. Went there today, The had a Helfrichi firefish. They also had 5 black bar chromis that I scooped up for my tank. I've been wanting to order some for months and finally saw some today. They had tons of nice saltwater fish with quite a few corals today as well. Worth stopping in!

Well im the fish manager from the Portland Petco, and I have to say thank you Ryan for pointing me to this board. My personal favorite place local(ish) is cultivated reef, great experiences with Greg, ordered over a dozen times and visit at three times now. I make weekly trips to Atlantis down the street from my work for the supplies I can't get at Petco. I also make it a point to go to Jays in Salem nh at least every few months. Of course it's hard to resist the ability to special order and things going on sale with my employee discount. Otherwise online, divers den has great healthy specimens and rare finds, but at a price.

Seamonkey84, you've definitely made the Portland Petco into one of the better local places to go for fish and inverts. Are there still plans on adding a bigger coral tank in the store?

Our store got evaluated last month to see if they want to turn us into a "magnet" store, if it's approved we should have a dedicated coral tank in a few months, maybe after the new year... They should be upgrading us seeing that I'm out selling all other petcos in the district... Maybe in the region.

Thats sweet. Petco usually gets a pretty bad rep for Saltwater but I've seen really good stuff at your store! Wish all Petco's were up to par with saltwater!

I agree, it's the best looking Petco in the area and I go there when I need my "fix" and I don't feel like driving 2 hours north or south. I hope that you get approved and we can see more from you

The Augusta Petco is starting to get more livestock orders in now. I just got a nice blue linkia sea star there yesterday for $9.99 and I couldn't pass on it. So far its the fist one I've had in years that has actually gotten out and started moving around after acclimation. Never again will I pay $49 price tag for one from a different LFS up north. Really hope this one makes it past a few days.
